What is Stump Grinding
Stump grinding tackles those unsightly and obstructive remnants left behind after tree removal. The process utilizes a high-powered grinding machine equipped with a rotating disc that houses sharp carbide teeth. This disc shreds the stump into small chips as the machine meticulously grinds it down below ground level. Typically, a few inches of woodchips are left behind. These chips can decompose naturally, adding nutrients to the soil, or be used for landscaping projects. This efficient method eliminates the eyesore and potential tripping hazard, creating a clean slate for planting or redesigning your landscape.
What to do after your stump grinding
Woodchip Use: The remaining woodchips can be left to decompose naturally, enriching the soil over time (decomposition rate varies depending on size and type of wood).
Replanting: If you plan to replant a tree in the same location, wait at least one year to allow the woodchips to decompose partially and avoid robbing the new tree of nutrients.
Grass Seeding: Seeding the area with grass seed is recommended to prevent erosion and promote new growth. You can plant grass seed immediately after grinding, or wait a few weeks to allow the ground to settle.
